Back 2 School Bash: Finish Summer Off with a Bang!

Not ready for the summer to end? Don’t worry! The Town of Fountain Hills has you covered! Get ready for the 2nd Annual Back to School held on August 25th in Four Peaks Park from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

Bring your swimsuits, and a friend to cool off from the heat. Enjoy an evening of fun with waterslides, inflatable rides, music, and so much more. Have you ever wanted to dunk your favorite teacher? Here’s your chance to for a little revenge at the Dunk Tank, everyone’s favorite event!

Local Firemen and Sheriff’s officers will be there with activities, including one of the Maricopa Sherriff’s Dept. Canine Officers.  A fire truck will be on hand for families and their children to explore.

Sonoran Lifestyle Real Estate will be on-hand with a special fun Photo Booth, a chance for parents and kids to switch roles in a fun, family setting.

The Back to School Bash is a great opportunity for families and the community to come together for an evening of free family fun to kick off the school year. Last year’s event had over 600 families, and more are be expected this year, a great opportunity to meet the families of your kids’ friends.

Parking will be limited. Park in the Four Peaks north field parking lot. Overflow parking will be available along Del Cambre Avenue.

Enjoy An Italian Dinner with the River of Time Museum

The evening will begin with dinner catered by Phil’s Filling Station, and a silent auction.

The River of Time Museum is hosting its annual Italian Dinner at 5:00 pm on August 12th, 2017 at the Fountain Hills Community Center. The evening will begin with dinner catered by Phil’s Filling Station, and a silent auction. The live auction will begin at 6:30 pm with State Senator John Kavanagh acting as auctioneer. A variety of items will be auctioned from collectibles, helicopter ride to the Four Peaks Mine, and a trip on Saguaro Lake for two by the Maricopa Sherriff’s Office.

There are numerous opportunities for the community to get involved by supporting the Italian Dinner. Businesses that are interested can become a museum sponsor with a $500 contribution. Museum sponsors will have their name displayed on promotional pieces, receive a full-page ad, and two tickets to the dinner. If you would like to donate, new collectible auction items are being accepted Tuesday-Saturday from 10 am to 2pm at the Museum Gift Shop. Volunteers are needed to fill in for a variety of positions before, during, and after the dinner.

Advance tickets are available for $20 each, and can be purchased online, and a variety of establishments across town such as Brooklyn Bedding, Sami’s Fine Jewelry, Fountain Fashions, and EuroPizza. Join the Town of Fountain Hills Community Services for an exciting day of bowling, laser-tag, and pizza at Main Event. The bus will leave promptly at 10:15 am from the Fountain Hills Middle School, and return at 4:00 pm. Registration includes pizza and admission to Main Event. Participants are welcome to bring money for anything extra. Pre-registration is required, and limited for the first 40 teens. The event is free and open to any middle schooler.

Water is an important part of desert living. Since much of the land is covered by nonporous surfaces such as roads, rooftops, and parking lots, the urban lifestyle has a big impact on water quality. You know it’s monsoon season in Arizona when the weather enthusiasts start to gather.

Join McDowell Mountain Regional Park celebrate monsoon season, and learn about the perils of impervious surfaces.  The park will hold an interactive demonstration with an Enviroscape model. Participants will learn about watersheds, storm water, and water pollutants on July 13th, 2017.  Test your knowledge of storm water with trivia, and win a prize.  The program will begin at 7:00 pm in the Visitor Center of McDowell Mountain Regional Park.

The Maricopa County Parks are getting Wet ‘n” Wild this Summer! That means participants in the Perils of Impervious program will be eligible to win a 4 pack of tickets to Wet ‘n’ Wild Phoenix.

Six Incredible Adventures You Can Have in Jerome

Need to get away for the weekend? Jerome is the perfect destination for that weekend getaway! Jerome is worth visiting for its tranquil scenery. Built into the side of Cleopatra Hill, Jerome overlooks the beautiful Verde Valley, and is a great place to wander the streets, and soak up the eclectic atmosphere. Before you launch yourself into the atmosphere of Jerome, learn about the past at the Douglas Mansion which is in the Jerome State Historic Park. The Douglas Mansion has been an eye-catching landmark of Jerome since it was built in 1916 by James S. Douglas on the side of Cleopatra Hill above his Little Daisy Mine. The former home features photographs, artifacts, and a 3-D model of Jerome with its underground mines. Step outside to view more displays, and take in the beautiful panoramic view of the Verde Valley.

Love a good ghost story? The Jerome Grand Hotel offers breathtaking views, and the ultimate haunted experience. The hotel is one of the largest national historic landmark, and one of the most haunted in Arizona. The Spanish Mission style building was constructed in 1926, started out as United Verde Hospital. The hospital was shut down in 1950, and the building stood unused for 44 years. In 1994, the Altherr family purchased the building, and restored the building into the current hotel. The hotel offers a “ghost package” which includes digital cameras and ghost meters.

This trail is a difficult hike which involves a good amount of elevation and loose rocks, Plan on bringing a hiking pole, comfortable shoes, clothing and a hat for the intense hike. The 4th at the Fountain will cap the night off with a majestic firework display at 9:00 pm over the picturesque lake at Fountain Park. No personal fireworks, sparklers, or other open flames are allowed. Due to the noise of the fireworks, the Town of Fountain Hills suggests that all pets be kept at home for their safety.

Public parking throughout downtown Fountain Hills will be available. Please note temporary road closures will be in effect at the end of the program to help allow pedestrians to exit the park.
